Why This Reference Exists
Printed San Diego directories stopped serving as a current universal list, but the underlying record trails remain. ARCC handles assessor, recorder, and county-clerk functions. The Superior Court keeps its own case index and files. California law limits public voter information. Central Library Special Collections holds city directories from 1886 through 2021, with selected scans online. City Clerk Archives, the San Diego History Center, and State Archives preserve other local-history layers.
Finding a current property relationship or tracing an earlier household can otherwise require several offices and collections. The pages here organize the search by angle, coverage, access channel, and evidence strength for San Diego County.
What San Diego County Readers Will Find
- Address routes: the street directory follows APNs, maps, deeds, permits, and address-keyed evidence.
- Historical collections: the directory book explains the 1874 scan, library shelf, reverse sections, and year runs.
- One-person research: the resident lookup separates court, property, vital, business, license, and probate clues.
- Geographic slices: ZIP and block pages distinguish postal routes, planning areas, parcels, and civic boundaries.
- Access rules: California Public Records Act requests, vital-copy eligibility, voter confidentiality, and Safe at Home limits stay with the custodian.
What This Reference Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference with no connection to San Diego County departments, the City of San Diego, California agencies, courts, libraries, or records custodians. Some limits are firm:
- It cannot confirm that a named person currently lives at an address.
- It cannot retrieve, certify, amend, or remove a government record for a reader.
- It cannot add or delete a person from an assessor, voter, court, vital, or directory collection.
- It cannot provide legal advice about a record, dispute, or disclosure request.
- It cannot guarantee that a portal, fee, collection year, or office detail remains unchanged.
Only the responsible custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Information from this reference is not a consumer report and must not be used for an FCRA-regulated decision.
